As a first-generation college student, I was oftentimes too embarrassed to share that I didn’t understand. I could have saved myself a lot of time and frustration by being courageous and bold enough to just ask. Therefore, being independent is overrated so be curious and ask questions. Take advantage of the advisors and mentors because they have a wealth of information. You don’t have to do this alone. Allow your new community to help you through. Make connections and go back to point #1….ask questions!
